This collection consists of objects that represent the formal act of honouring, recognition or expressing of gratitude to a particular person, institution or organization and tokens issued in remembrance of a significant event. They include different types of formal state awards; orders, medals, plaques, charters, diplomas, certificates of appreciation and acknowledgments issued by the organs of the central state authorities of the countries to which Istria belonged in a given period of time, as well as objects that relate exclusively to events and personalities connected with Istria; commemorative medals, tokens issued in remembrance of a significant event, diplomas, plaques and acknowledgments of local significance issued by local authorities, institutions or dignitaries. In addition to these symbols of honour the collection includes coats of arms and stamps. Most of these symbols of honour originate from the period in which Istria was under the rule of Austro-Hungarian Monarchy and from the period of Yugoslav rule subsequent to the Second World War.
